Know your trackers

Create an inventory of device models, installed vehicles, supported protocols, and the platform that receives the data. Ownership of a tracker does not automatically mean access to its API or historical records.

Understand coverage and freshness

A location is useful only when you understand when it was recorded and received. GPS reception, mobile connectivity, device settings, and platform delays affect the information shown. Plan how the dashboard should communicate stale or missing updates.

Choose operational questions first

Decide what dispatchers and managers need to know: where assets were last seen, which routes were followed, or when an area boundary was crossed. Then confirm that the source data can support each report and alert.

Pilot before a wider rollout

Validate the integration on a small agreed set of vehicles. Check timestamps, permissions, route history, and real-world coverage. The pilot should establish what is dependable before the interface becomes part of everyday decisions.
